Homestead Camping

OVERVIEW

Homestead Camping offers caravan and camping sites in the Addo area. The property is ideal when visiting the Addo Elephant National Park and the Addo Area in general, and Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport is 114 km away. Each campsite has a grassy area under shady trees and is suitable for 3 campers or to park a caravan. Each site has access to communal ablutions fitted with showers. Guests are required to bring along their own camping and BBQ/braai equipment. The ablution block is serviced on a daily basis and includes laundry facilities, a scullery area, and electrical power points. Every stand has a braai/BBQ facility. The main reception area has free Wi-Fi access. In addition, guests have access to a refreshing swimming pool, a kiddies play area, and free secure parking. The bird life here is abundant and well worth watching. Guests should really take time to enjoy the peace of the lovely garden, with Palm and Jacaranda trees of almost 100 years or feel free to walk around our farm. Some of our guests have actually spent their first day here doing nothing but sitting on their patios or in the garden, reading or just drinking in the relaxing atmosphere. This is an excellent way to unwind from the stresses of city life or long-distance travelling before going off to see the many sights Addo has to offer.

AREA INFORMATION

Completely overshadowed by the world-renowned Addo Elephant Park, there is actually a little town about an hour's drive from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), called Addo. This small citrus farming community serves mainly as a supplement to the park, offering accommodation and a place to shop before visiting the main attraction - the elephants. Eleven elephants were saved from the brink of extinction in 1931 when the situation in the valley, rife with clashes between farmers and elephants, reached a dangerous level. Crop damage and night raids were the reasons cited for the killing of these beautiful beasts. Today, Addo Elephant Park is also home to Cape buffalo, black rhino, a range of antelope species and sightings, when you find the time to look at your feet rather than scanning the horizon, of the rare flightless dung beetle. In fact, the park markets itself as South Africa's first Big Seven reserve. The rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo's numbers have swelled to include the southern right whale and great white shark, since the park now extends to the sea and some offshore islands.
