OVERVIEW
Comfort and a warm welcome await you at Sherwood's, a charming country house. Echoing the area's rich history of the Zeederberg Coach Trail from the 1800s, the property is nestled on a working avocado farm amidst the magnificent Agatha mountains and forests, 13 km above Tzaneen. We offer en-suite bedrooms with a homely atmosphere, ensuring peace and privacy. All rooms open onto the gardens, with deluxe and classic rooms featuring small sitting areas, cosy log fires, and private verandas. Our standard rooms are neatly decorated and comfortable. With our personalised attention, an unforgettable stay is assured. Our facilities include scenic views, day tours around the area, a swimming pool, mountain bikes, a beauty salon, and forest walks, with Kruger National Park just an hour away. Treat yourself to a beauty treatment with our Mountain Mobile Spa Retreat. We are a TGSCA 4-star country house with limited smoking areas. Restaurants nearby.
AREA INFORMATION
Described as an appealing subtropical garden town, Tzaneen is in fact the second largest town in the Mopani district in Limpopo that lies at the foot of the Wolkberg Mountains in the northern reaches of the Drakensberg range. These form an impressive backdrop to the town that is renowned for its abundant growth of just about everything subtropical - avocados, nuts, citrus fruits, mangoes, bananas and litchis, coffee, tea and cotton. Tzaneen also serves as a good spot from which to explore the rest of the region, with its position just below the Magoebaskloof. The special thing about Tzaneen is the constant change in scenery - lush vegetation, plantations, mountains and famous baobab trees. There is never a dull moment. The quaint little Tzaneen Museum is definitely worth a visit, on a day when you're not out exploring the various nature reserves or the Tzaneen Dam (also a nature reserve), for its collection of ethnological artefacts like pottery, beadwork, weapons, the largest collection of pole carvings in the country. There is also a collection of royal drums from the Rain Queen, Modjadji - hereditary ruler of the Balobedu people of the area whose succession is matrilineal (the Queen's eldest daughter is heir and males are not entitled to the throne) - whose residence is close to the Modjadji Nature Reserve. Just 17 kilometres from Tzaneen is the beautiful Duiwelskloof (devil's gorge), renamed Modjadjiskloof in 2004 in the Rain Queen's honour. Routes to visit nearby mountains such as Duiwelskloof and Magoebaskloof provided at our reception.

Things to do & see at Sherwood's & surrounds: There are several short scenic walks from the country house, including a walk to a nearby garden, where you can spend a good few hours strolling and admiring the spectacular views through the formal garden which forms part of the 'botanical route' in the area.
