The remoteness of the property and its location were amazing. Just a few kilometres off the main road, and you were in a remote, beautiful and quiet part of the world surrounded by nature. The host couldn't have made us feel more welcome, inviting us to use her home, as our own. It's a rustic property that allows you to feel immersed into nature and involved with their rescue programme, working closely with Cape Nature. Our room had electricity, however there are two cottages a little further than the main house which are completely off the grid, and we'd love to return, and stay in one of these. We enjoyed a 3-night stay, and felt like family when we left.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at this wild nature reserve. The surroundings were incredibly peaceful, and we really appreciated being immersed in nature – it felt like a true escape. Gill and Brenda were fantastic hosts: very friendly, welcoming, and informative, which made the experience even more special. It’s worth noting that the reserve is quite isolated, and the gravel road leading there is a bit bumpy, especially if you’re driving a non-4WD or compact car. That said, it didn’t detract from our stay at all. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would happily stay again.

Unmatched serenity! Zero light pollution and vast starry night sky. Beautiful fynbos and walking trails. Cottage was very comfortable and made one feel like stepping back in time.

We enjoyed the solitude and atmosphere of an authentic and unpretentious stay. Days of walking through the restio and leucospermum landscape and nights of clear stargazing. A library/info centre and lily pool for swimming also added to the experience. Thanks Gillian & wildlife volunteers!

If you like to stay in the middle of nature, sit on your private “stoepie”watch as much stars at night as i only experienced in The Outback, Australia and meet some warm hearted, friendly, passionated volunteers, this is the place to be! You need to be a bit adventurous in regards to driving a gravel road and crossing a small dam, yet the rewards are absolutely gorgeous. Set in the Fynbos with beautiful hikes, watching sunrise at the dam, listening to the owner sharing her passion and concerns about rescuing indigenous plants and animals as a voluntary donation based community it will give you a true Karoo experience. I can’t wait to be back and stay for a few weeks and contribute to this amazing initiative that deserves every penny you spent. The room itself has all you need and has a lovely cosy colonial vibe. Special attention for the candles and the abundant shower. Highly recommend
