Overview

5 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and outside showers available with a fully equipped kitchen, spacious lounge and dining area in the main building. two wooden decks and a small swimming pool overlooking the waterhole provides the perfect place to sit and watch the animals quenching their thirst on those hot summer days, alternatively sit safely and quietly in the underground Umgede Hide and view the animals from their level only a few metres from you. Enjoy a traditional braai in the evening as you listen to the roar of the lions and the trumpet of the elephants. For the nature loving tourist this is an exclusive but rustic camp which will cater for all your bush experience needs. The unique feature of the underground hide by the waterhole sets this camp apart from many others in the area. With elephants drinking and swimming right in front of you, and the constant activity of birds and other wildlife offering you photographic opportunities difficult to match, the experience will change your lives. FOMO is bound to make you want to come back time and time again to witness your perfect sighting.

Grietjie Private Nature Reserve is a 3000Ha Big 5 reserve. Developed from previous small holdings, the members have dropped fences and opened up the whole area over the past 20 years to create a wildlife haven and have recently expanded our traversing area to more than 7500Ha. We are 30kms south of Phalaborwa and form part of the bigger Balule Nature reserve and are incorporated within the Greater Kruger National Park. The reserve is well-known for its elephant herds and many other general game species. Lions are frequent visitors to the waterhole and can be heard calling almost every night. The Olifants river runs through the reserve and makes for the perfect setting for a sundowner during an evening drive.

Phalaborwa is the only entry gate located on the boundary of the Kruger National Park and is only 45 minutes drive from the centre. This gate gives you easy access to both central and northern areas of the Kruger. Wildlife and birdwatching cruises on the Kambaku boat can be arranged on the Olifants Barrage. This activity can be combined with a game drives as our traversing now allows us to access the boat through the reserve A view over the mining town of Phalaborwa from the top of the view point gives an amazing view of the large hole left behind, some 400m below sea level at the very bottom.
