Dullstroom-Emnotweni dates back to the early 1880s when Dutch Settlers made their way to the place of "eternal mist". The town is situated at 2100 m above sea level, making this one of the highest towns in the country. The architecture in the town is a mixture of 19th and 20th-century building designs.
Dullstroom is a natural paradise and offers exceptional panoramas of mountains and wildflowers. This makes for a wide and varied birdlife in the area - good sightings of all three species of crane extant in South Africa are possible. There is also a bird of prey rehabilitation centre with daily displays near the town which is well worth visiting. The surrounding area also offers an opportunity for entertaining day trips - Sabie, Graskop and Pilgrims Rest are all within driving distance.
