Esperon is the perfect country getaway to explore the Cape Winelands, located in the picturesque Banhoek Valley between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
Esperon enjoys unrivalled panoramic views of the Drakenstein and Simonsberg mountain ranges lying within the Banhoek Conservancy and is only 10 minutes from the heart of Stellenbosch and 30 minutes from Franschhoek.
The two self-catering cottages are ideal for a restful Winelands getaway.
The farm was bought by the current owners on the eve of the first democratic election in South Africa. Esperon originally was a small plum tree orchard with a simple cottage and has over the years been developed into a boutique vineyard.
The original name was Esperon de la Montagne, which translated from French means “Mountain Hope” and has since been shortened to Esperon "Hope.”
"Hope,” we believe, is an apt name for Esperon, as it encapsulates the motivation to keep moving forward and believing in a better future with a positive outlook on life.
Nestled just outside the charming town of Stellenbosch, and winding up the mountainous pass to the neighbouring Franschhoek, lies the breathtakingly beautiful Banghoek Valley. Its name, derived from ‘De Bange Hoek’ meaning ‘Scary Corner,’ honours the daring pioneers who once traversed the rugged terrain, confronting the wild landscape that lay ahead.
This valley, home to elephants, buffalo, lions, and leopards, embodies the audacious spirit of those early explorers. Today, it is a region renowned for its exceptional vineyards, producing some of the finest Cabernet and Chardonnay in South Africa.
