Overview

Ida Olive Shepherd's Cottage is the perfect off-the-grid escape, nestled on a tranquil goat farm and wildlife sanctuary. The cottage is fully equipped with all the essentials for a comfortable self-catering stay, offering the ideal home away from home in a serene and rustic setting. The cottage features two inviting bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed and the other with a king-size bed that can be converted into twin beds for added flexibility. The bedrooms share a well-appointed bathroom with a bath, shower, toilet, and washbasin. For a unique touch, there is also an additional outdoor shower, perfect for enjoying the natural surroundings. The open-plan kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, oven, fridge, cutlery, crockery, a spice rack, and coffee and tea-making facilities, perfect for a self-catering stay. Flowing from the kitchen is a dining area and a cosy sitting space, ideal for relaxing or enjoying meals together. Outside, the patio features comfortable outdoor furniture and a braai area, perfect for al fresco dining in a peaceful farm setting. The cottage is off the grid and makes use of solar power.

McGregor, named after one of the oldest Scottish clans, lies in a valley surrounded by rolling hills, providing several walking and hiking opportunities, as well as historical walks around the village itself. The mystically imbued town of McGregor lies just 10 minutes from the town of Robertson on Route 62, less than two hours' drive from Cape Town. The mild climate makes McGregor a wonderful place to visit in winter, and it is only in summer that it can prove a little hot. McGregor lies right in the heart of the Breede River Wine Valley and wine tasting is almost obligatory when in this part of the world. There are several annual festivals, including the Robertson Slow Food and Wine Festival at the end of October, and the museum is worth a visit.
