Brits is a town in the North West Province of South Africa, approximately 50 kilometres west of Pretoria and 100 kilometres north of Johannesburg. Founded in 1924 on the farm Roode Kopjes, it was named after the former owner, Johannes Nicolaas Brits. The town is situated in a fertile agricultural region, benefiting from irrigation provided by the Hartbeespoort Dam. This supports the cultivation of citrus fruits, vegetables, and grains. Additionally, Brits have a notable industrial sector, including the extraction of platinum and vanadium, making it one of the most significant areas for these minerals in South Africa. In terms of transportation, Brits are well-connected by road, with routes leading to major cities like Pretoria and Johannesburg. The town also has a railway station on the Pretoria–Thabazimbi line, primarily used for freight transport. The nearby Brits Airfield serves general aviation but does not offer scheduled commercial flights. Overall, Brits serve as a vital hub for agriculture and industry in the North West Province, offering a blend of rural and urban environments.
